It's Halloween week this week. Up the mess factor slightly with a sensory play tub full of bats, make your own ghostly Halloween cards and go out after dark on a Halloween scavenger hunt.
This week how about reading Room on the Broom with your toddler? This was the first Julia Donaldson book we discovered and we always return to it (along with The Snail and the Whale). And instead of a rhyme, I'm going to stick with the Julia Donaldson theme and recommend you check out the Room on the Broom adaptation on BBC iplayer. Cuddle on the sofa with your toddler and enjoy some hopefully guilt free TV time.
For the sensory play this week you will need some lentils and farfalle pasta. If you can face the prep you can dye the pasta using black food colouring or paint. Add to a bag along with a squirt of hand sanitiser and leave to dry out to make bats. If you can't face it, don't worry, your toddler won't notice or care. Add to a tub with red lentils. Leave them with scoops or containers and let them explore.
We are returning to leaf painting this week so go outdoors to collect some large leaves. Get some white card, fold it and help your toddler paint it in brown paint. Use white paint to paint the underside of a leaf. Stamp it and add eyes and a mouth to create a leaf ghost.
Our washable paint of choice are these Crayola tubs.
This week's out and about Halloween themed idea is a scavenger hunt. Why don't you go out with your toddler today and try to spot some Halloween decorations?
Bit of a random list for next week but trust me! Pick up some shaving foam, paint and glow sticks and save a used kitchen roll
