For dinosaur week, hatch dinosaur eggs, make dinosaur fossils and put the tooth on the t-rex!
With dinosaurs as a theme, we are never going to be short of books to suggest! We love the book "Never Show a T-Rex a Book" which is available here. And put on 10 Little Dinosaurs.
For this week's sensory play make dinosaur eggs.
* the cheat way * get some wet sand and mould it into an egg shape around some plastic dinosaurs.
* the insta-grammable way * add a scoop of cocoa powder or ground coffee to flour with some salt. Pour in water (slowly) until you get a dough-like consistency. Mould into an egg shape around a plastic dinosaur. Bake at 180C/200C for 20-25 minutes until the eggs are hard.
Then let your toddler hatch the dinosaur eggs!
We put ours on a lining of "dirt" made with flour and cocoa baked at 180C for 10 minutes. Whether you bother with this step too is up to you.
Make dinosaur fossils with your toddler this week. We promise it's easier than it sounds!
For your base you'll need to make salt dough which is pretty simple:
Make a small ball of dough then press it flat with your hand. Gently press a dinosaur, skeleton or any other * toy into the dough to make an impression.
Bake on 120C until dry and hard - this will normally take 2 hours.
You could make these first and add to your sensory play bin!
* this is dinosaur week but the whole point of Toddler Hacks is to use things you already have around the house, so any plastic toy will work here.
Pin the tooth on the T-rex for this week's active play. In the printables section below you'll find a file you can print out on A4 to make a T-rex (across 4 pages of A4) and its teeth. Then try pinning the teeth onto the T-rex with your toddler.
