Bonfire Night Week

Welcome to Bonfire Night Week!

This week, make fireworks stamps and explore a fireworks sensory play bin. Turn the lights low and have your own glo stick party.

Book and Rhyme of the Week

For the themed book this week, check out It Was A Cold Dark Night and help  Ned the hedgehog find a home in the cold, dark forest. And it may not be a nursery rhyme but why not put on Katy Perry's Firework song and have a dance with your toddler?

Sensory Play

This sensory bin may be messy but give it a go. Put shaving foam in a plastic tub. Add washable paint in the shape of fireworks. Option to add glitter as well if you have some. Leave out with scoops for your toddler to explore. If you're worried about the mess this is a good one to do in an empty bath.

My toddler wasn't that convinced by it so we ended up combining with the arts and crafts activity and making very odd looking fireworks stamps!

Arts and Crafts

We will make firework stamps to celebrate bonfire night this week. Get a toilet roll or kitchen roll and cut narrow slits around one half of it. Cut it in half and close it really tight with sellotape. Fold back the cut part and you have your own homemade fireworks stamper.

These are our washable paints of choice here - our toddler loves selecting the little tubs.

Active Play

The active play for bonfire night is a glow stick party! My environmental consciousness cringed slightly at me happily buying single use plastic but I loved glow sticks so much when I was younger I wanted to introduce them to my toddler. We waited til it was dark, turned the lights off and had fun making shapes and dancing around.

We got these glow sticks from Amazon but any you can find will do the trick!

What you'll need next week

Main thing next week is toy cars! Plus keep any cardboard and egg cartons you have instead of throwing them out.

Take me to car week!
