Tigers

Welcome to Tiger Week

This week act out the book A Tiger Who Came To Tea, make tigers out of card and play keepy uppy with a tiger.

Book and Rhyme of the Week

The book this week is an obvious one considering the theme. Yes, it's The Tiger Who Came to Tea. Pick up a copy here if you haven't got one already. And sing Can You Dance Like A Tiger with your toddler for this week's rhyme.

Sensory Play

This week's sensory play is based around the book the tiger who came to tea!

The simplest set up would be gathering up any toy food and tea set items you have, reading the book and acting it out.

Then if you wanted to you could add in a container with tiger coloured fillers!

I reused the red lentils from a few weeks ago then hunted around to find something to make tiger stripes. If I'd planned it I would have dyed some rice black. But I didn't so I used grey shredded paper instead.

We read the book together and scooped and poured the lentils into the tea cups.

Arts and Crafts

Make a tiger out of a piece of orange card this week!

  1. Start with an A4 piece of card and cut it in half.
  2. Fold up along one of the pieces of card.
  3. Repeat for the other piece of card.
  4. Glue them together. I used pritt stick for this.
  5. Tie the middle of the card with string or thread.
  6. Then attach the sides of the folded card together to make a circle. This part was a bit fiddly so use lots of glue or if you need to add some sellotape to help the stick!
  7. Add in triangles with black pen along the top and sides for your tiger stripes!
  8. Cut out 2 arc shapes for ears and stick to the back of the circle.
  9. Add in 2 white circles with dots for the eyes and a nose and mouth on an orange circle.
  10. Finally add 2 more circles for the feet.

And there you have it, a tiger!

If you'd prefer to follow along to a video, then it's up on here.

Active Play

For this week's active play for the tiger theme play keepy uppy with a tiger.

I got an orange balloon and drew tiger stripes onto it with a black marker pen. Then threw it around the room with my toddler!
