This week, make a spider sensory box and guess the length of the spider trails, make your own spiders and go outside to find some spiders.
This week's book is a book that inspired spider week as every time we read it we get a request to sing Itsy Wincy/Bitsy Spider. Find it here.
And for the song this week, sing Itsy Wincy/Bitsy Spider with your toddler.
Build a spider themed sensory bin this week.
We used red lentils as the base, with spiders we made as the arts and crafts activity for this week. The best thing about using dried food as the base is you can sweep it up and reuse it. This base was actually one left over from Halloween week which is why there is black "bat" pasta in it!
We added threads to the back of the spiders and different sized tubes so our toddler could guess which spider would make it down the water spout.
If you don't have any plastic spiders lying about then why don't you do the arts and crafts activity first and use the spiders you've made in the sensory bin?
For this week's arts and crafts make spiders out of pipe cleaners!
A great way to involve your toddler more in this activity is by adding beads to the spider's legs.
As well as singing Itsy Wincy/Bitsy Spider with your toddler, get outside for this week's active play and try to see how many spiders you can find. Bonus points if you manage to find them around some water spouts.
Download your spider themed colouring in for this week!
Spider Week - colouring in (pdf)
DownloadNext week you will need some gelatine or vege-gel along with plastic (sea) animals for the sensory box! And a paper plate and tissue paper for the arts and crafts.
If you're looking to buy supplies then these sea animals are a good selection and this colourful multi pack of tissue paper will be very useful!
